GSC Softball Extends Win Streak To Four

PHENIX CITY, Ala. – Gordon State Softball ran its win streak to four games as the Highlanders cruised to a 10-1, 13-1 doubleheader sweep of Chattahoochee Valley Community College (Ala.) here Sunday afternoon.

Both games went five innings as GSC (11-8) scored late to break out close contests and get its second straight doubleheader sweep and third of the season.

Leading 3-1 in game one, GSC scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to close out the nine-run win.

Catherine Barefield (Cataula, Ga. / Harris Co. HS) and Jordyn Dobson (McDonough, Ga. / Union Grove HS) each had two hits, drove in three runs and scored a run for the Highlanders.

Faith Hager (Conyers, Ga. / Heritage HS) went the distance and allowed just two unearned runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking none.

Game two saw GSC take a 5-1 lead after three innings and then explode for five more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Barefield stayed hot with two hits, four RBI and a run while Taylor Corley (Warner Robins, Ga. / Warner Robins HS) had a pair of hits, two RBI and a run scored for GSC.

Bailey Odom (Danville, Ga. / Bleckley Co. HS) got the win in the circle with five innings of work and allowed one unearned run on four hits while striking out nine and walking one.

GSC stays on the road Wednesday to open Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) play as the Highlanders travel to Tifton to take on Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC).
