Coming off a strong conference win against East Georgia State, Gordon State faced West Georgia Tech in Barnesville on Tuesday April 10th. On the mound for the Highlanders was sophomore left hander Jonathan Robinson (4-0). In just his second start of the series, Robinson proved to be too much to handle for the West GA Tech offense. Robinson threw a complete game for the Highlanders. The South Georgia native gave up only one run through nine innings, allowing eight hits with five strikeouts. LHP Avery Smith (0-3) started the game for the Knights on the bump. Smith exited the game in the sixth inning after allowing six runs to the Highlander offense. Jason Fointno and Datren Bray led the way for Gordon offensively both going 2 for 4 on the game. A couple big innings for the Highlanders gave Gordon a 6-0 lead in the fourth inning. After scratching across a run in the top half of the fifth, six runs were all the Highlanders needed as Gordon wins Game 1 of the five-game conference series, 6-1. Jonathan Robinson moves to 4-0 on the year. Gordon State will travel up to Carrolton, GA this Thursday to face West GA Tech in Game 2 at 1:00pm.
