After sweeping West Georgia Tech, Gordon has moved up to third in the conference standings with South Georgia State standing in the way one spot ahead of the Highlanders. Gordon (25-19) faced South Georgia State (32-14) on Tuesday April 17th in Game 1 of a highly anticipated conference series. Cody Oglivie started on the mound for South Georgia with Jonathan Robinson on the mound for the Highlanders. Gordon jumped out to a solid 5-1 lead in the third inning thanks to key hits in some tight situations. Jonathan Robinson held his own on the mound for the Highlanders. The left-hander went a full eight innings before allowing a few hits and an unfortunate walk in the ninth. John-Michael Jones came into the game in the ninth to relieve Robinson of an outstanding performance on the mound. With bases loaded and no outs, Jones was put to the test to stop the bleeding and keep the game from headed to the bottom half of the ninth. South Georgia was able to cut the lead down to 5-3 thanks to a walk by Jones. Jones then gave up a couple base hits in the ninth as South Georgia took a 6-5 lead. Gordon couldn't get anything going offensively in the home-half of the ninth inning and dropped Game 1. Game 2 will be played on Friday at South Georgia as the Highlanders look for revenge.
