GSC Baseball Drops Two At No. 3 Chipola

MARIANNA, Fla. – Strong pitching and timely hitting propelled No. 3 Chipola College to a doubleheader sweep over Gordon State as the Indians won 4-0 and 3-0 here Tuesday.

GSC fell in the opener as Chipola struck for single runs in the first and sixth innings to go along with two runs in the fifth in the seven-inning contest.

Thomas Ross (Watkinsville, Ga. / Prince Avenue Christian) went four innings for the Highlands and took the loss despite allowing just one unearned run on one hit while striking out four and walking three.

GSC managed just two hits as Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier HS) and Sam Kuchinski (Powder Springs, Ga. / Harrison HS) had singles.

In the second game, the GSC bats remained quiet while Chipola (12-1) generated some late-inning offense to take the 3-0 seven-inning victory.

Brooks Gorman (Macon, Ga. / Tattnall Square Academy) went five innings and allowed just one unearned run, struck out five and walked one for the Highlanders.

GSC outhit Chipola 4-2 with Carson Renz (Dacula, Ga. / Mill Creek HS), Cole Stanford (Ellerslie, Ga. / Harris County HS), Ethan Scott (Augusta, Ga. / Aquinas HS) and Kuchinski coming up with the hits for the Highlanders.

GSC stranded 13 baserunners during the doubleheader, including eight in the nightcap.

GSC (1-4) is back on the diamond when the Highlanders open their home schedule with a Noon doubleheader vs. No. 1-ranked Wabash Valley College (Ill.). The two teams will play again Sunday with a single game at Noon.

Attendance will be limited with social-distance requirements and COVID-19 protocol in place.
