GSC-CACC Split Twin Bill -- Highlanders Capture Three Of Four For The Week

BARNESVILLE, Ga. – Gordon State Baseball and Central Alabama Community College split a doubleheader here Saturday as the Highlanders took the opener 9-5 while the Trojans rallied to win the nightcap by a 10-5 score.

For the four-game home-and-home series, GSC won three out of four to improve to 5-7 overall during the 2021 campaign.

Sam Kuchinski (Powder Springs, Ga. / Harrison HS), Derek Wylie (Warner Robins, Ga. / Veterans HS) and Noah Dawkins (Marietta, Ga. / Kell HS) each had two hits while Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Ga. / Fauquier HS) connected for a homer and three RBI in the 10-hit GSC attack.

Cole Stanford (Ellerslie, Ga. / Harris Co. HS) also added a home run and three RBI for the Highlanders, who scored three runs in the second inning, five in the fourth and one more in the sixth.

Jaxon O'Neal (Newnan, Ga. / Newnan HS) started and went three innings – allowing two runs on two hits while striking out two and walking two.

After Cody Scheider (St. Augustine, Fla. / Nease HS) worked two innings, Josh Green (Cumming, Ga. / South Forsyth HS) came on to seal the deal with two scoreless innings for GSC.

CACC broke open a close game in the nightcap as the Trojans scored three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and two more in the seventh to win going away.

Alex Kite (Lizella, Ga. / Mary Persons HS) led the way with three hits, including a triple, while O'Saben stayed hot at the plate with two more hits and a run scored for GSC.

Cole Phillips (Trion, Ga. / Trion HS) homered for one of his two hits and scored twice.

Jamel Rookard (Winston, Ga. / Chapel Hill HS) also had a pair of hits for the Highlanders.
