BARNESVILLE, Ga. – Gordon State's baseball team completed a two-game home series with No. 12 Northwest Florida State and the two teams split the pair of games with the Highlanders winning the opener on Thursday by a 10-1 score while the Raiders bounced back in Friday's game with a 14-4 victory.
GSC jumped on NFSC with a five-run first inning after the Raiders had scored once in the top half of the frame.
GSC (7-7) then added a run in the fourth and two each in the seventh and eighth to put the game away.
Cole Phillips (Trion, Ga. / Trion HS), Derek Wylie (Warner Robins, Ga. / Veterans HS), Sam Kuchinski (Powder Springs, Ga. / Harrison HS), and DJ Banks (Marietta, Ga. / McEachern HS) each had two hits to boost the Highlanders' 11-hit attack.
Meanwhile. Brody Parkerson (Villa Rica, Ga. / Bremen HS) drove in five runs for the afternoon, including a two-run homer in the eighth inning.
David Swenson (Toccoa, Ga. / Stephens Co. HS), Joey Gill (Canton, Ga. / Creekview HS) and Garrett Dowell (Comer, Ga. / Madison Co. HS) combined to allow just one earned run on five hits while striking out 11 and walking five.
Friday's game saw NFSC explode for four runs each in the fourth and seventh to go along with a five-run sixth inning to close out the game in eight innings.
Phillips had two hits to lead GSC (7-8) while Kuchinski had a pair of RBI for the Highlanders.
