BARNESVILLE, Ga. – Gordon State rebounded from a disappointing weekend with a 7-0, 10-3 doubleheader sweep of East Georgia State College here Tuesday in Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) baseball.

A four-run third inning and a three-run seventh inning would be plenty for starting pitcher Jaxon O'Neal (Newnan, Ga. / Newnan HS), who went six innings without allowing a run on four hits and struck out four.

Brooks Gorman (Macon, Ga. / Tattnall Square Academy) and Garrett Dowell (Comer, Ga. / Madison Co. HS) finished off the win with three shutout innings.

Cole Phillips (Trion, Ga. / Trion HS) blasted a homer during a 3-for-5 day at the plate that included four RBI and two runs scored for GSC.

DJ Banks (Marietta, Ga. / McEachern HS) added two hits and scored once for the Highlanders.

Game two saw the GSC bats remain alive as the Highlanders broke open a 4-3 game with a six-run sixth inning to complete the sweep over the Bobcats (18-9 overall, 3-3 GCAA).

Sam Kuchinski (Powder Springs, Ga. / Harrison HS) and Carson Renz (Dacula, Ga. / Mill Creek HS)  combined to go 4-for-7 with five RBI and two runs scored – Kuchinski 2-for-4 with three RBI and Renz 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Ethan Scott (Augusta, Ga. / Aquinas HS) homered for the Highlanders (14-11, 5-3) while Phillips added a triple in a game in which every starter had at least one hit.

Preston Felt (Buford, Ga. / Flowery Branch HS), Trey Felt (Lawrenceville, Ga. / Prince Avenue Christian) and Luke Jester (Arlington, Ga. / Early Co. HS) combined to hold ESSC to three runs on five hits while striking out five and walking four.
