Highlanders Sweep Point

BARNESVILLE, Ga. – Gordon State had no trouble cruising to a 6-0, 13-0 doubleheader sweep of Point University (Ga.) junior varsity here Monday afternoon.

GSC took the opener with a single run in the second inning and exploded for a five-run sixth to get the win.

Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier HS) went 2-for-4 with a run while Derek Wylie (Warner Robins, Ga. / Veterans HS) and Adam Alicia-Brooks ( ) each had a hit – a homer for Alicia-Brooks – and drove in two runs.

Brooks Gorman (Macon, Ga. / Tattnall Square Academy) went three innings to start the game and only allowed one walk while striking out a pair.

Cody Scheider (St. Augustine, Fla. / Nease HS) and Luke Jester (Arlington, Ga. / Early Co. HS) each pitched two shutout innings to finish out the seven-inning game.

The GSC bats came to life in the second game as the Highlanders (17-12 overall, 6-4 GCAA) scored in all four innings, including eight runs in the fourth to close out the abbreviated contest.

Will Hensley (Cumming, Ga. / Lambert HS) and Will McCrum (Kennesaw, Ga. / Kennesaw Mountain HS) each had three hits while Clayton Weaver (Columbus, Ga. / Northside HS) had two hits for the Highlanders.

Hensley had a triple, two RBI and two runs scored, McCrum drove in two runs and scored once, and Weaver scored three times.

Coleman Tanner (Waycross, Ga. / Ware Co. HS) also had a couple of hits while driving in a run and scoring once in the GSC 13-run, 15-hit outburst.

Davis Smith (Social Circle, Ga. / Social Circle HS) opened the game with two perfect innings on the mound and Kyle Sterwerf (Buford, Ga. / Mill Creek HS) closed it out with three innings without allowing a run or hit.
