Highlanders Bounce Back With Win In Second Game Vs. South Georgia State

BARNESVILLE, Ga. – Gordon State bounced back from a disappointing 11-7 loss in the first game of its doubleheader with South Georgia State College to take a 9-6 victory in the nightcap in Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) baseball action.

SGSC broke a 7-7 tie in game one with a run in the eighth inning and three more in the ninth to secure the win.

GSC had rallied with three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to tie the game.

Ethan Scott (Augusta, Ga. / Aquinas HS) went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI and run scored while Carson Renz (Dacula, Ga. / Mill Creek HS) went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Sam Kuchinski (Powder Springs, Ga. / Harrison HS) and Cole Stanford (Ellerslie, Ga. / Harris Co. HS) also had a pair of hits for GSC.

Game two saw GSC break a 6-6 tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth of the seven-inning game to gain the split of the twin bill.

Stanford stayed hot with a 2-for-4 performance that included two RBI and a run scored while Kuchinski went 2-for-3 with an RBI, run scored and walk for GSC (20-15 overall, 9-7 GCAA).

Seven Highlanders had at least one RBI in the win over SGSC (23-13, 6-10).

Jaxon O'Neal (Newnan, Ga. / Newnan HS) started on the mound and went four innings with two earned runs on six hits, five strikeouts and three walks.

Preston Felt (Buford, Ga. / Flowery Branch, Ga.) finished off the game and got the win with three innings of work while allowing two earned runs on five hits, two strikeouts and a walk.
