GSC Bats Come Alive As Highlanders Take Two Over South Georgia State

BARNESVILLE, Ga. – Gordon State's bats were alive and well on Sunday afternoon as the Highlanders rolled 13-3 and 9-5 over South Georgia State College in a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) doubleheader.

GSC jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the opener by scoring a run in the first inning, four in the second and sixth in the third.

Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier HS) ran the table with four treys across the board – a 3-for-3 day at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored for the Highlanders.

O'Saben had a homer and double during the game.

Cole Stanford (Ellerslie, Ga. / Harris Co. HS) went 2-for-3 with a walk, run and RBI as eight different Highlanders reached on a base hit.

Davis Swenson (Toccoa, Ga. / Stephens Co. HS), Cory Scheider (St. Augustine, Fla. / Nease HS) and Garrett Dowell (Comer, Ga. / Madison Co. HS) held SGSC to three runs on six hits while striking out 11 and walking four.

Trailing 3-2 going to the bottom of the seventh inning, GSC posted a four-spot and added three runs in the eighth to rally for the win.

Ethan Scott (Augusta, Ga. / Aquinas HS) homered and drove in two runs for GSC as the Highlanders again had eight players get a hit in the nightcap.

DJ Banks (Marietta, Ga. / McEachern HS) went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI while Stanford stayed hot with a 3-for-5 effort that also produced a run and an RBI.

Cole Phillips (Trion, Ga. / Trion HS), Carson Renz (Dacula, Ga. / Mill Creek HS) and Trevor Knowles (Folkston, Ga. / Charlton Co. HS) each had two hits in the 15-hit outburst for the Highlanders (22-15 overall, 11-7 GCAA).

Meanwhile, Ramsey David (Dacula, Ga. / Buford HS), Brooks Gorman (Macon, Ga. / Tattnall Square Academy) and Preston Felt (Buford, Ga. / Flowery Branch HS) combined to hold SGSC (23-14, 6-12) to single runs in five of the nine innings.
