GSC, Andrew Split GCAA Twin Bill

BARNESVILLE, Ga. – Gordon State rebounded from a 9-6 opening-game loss to Andrew College with a 7-2 win in the nightcap to split the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) doubleheader here Friday.

GSC attempted to rally in the first game after falling behind 9-3 due to five errors by the Highlanders' defense, but a three-run ninth inning fell short in the end as Andrew took the victory.

Cole Stanford (Ellerslie, Ga. / Harris Co. HS) led GSC with a 3-for-5 day at the plate that included a run and an RBI.

Ethan Scott (Augusta, Ga. / Aquinas HS) was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run while Jamel Rookard (Winston, Ga. / Chapel Hill HS), Carson Renz (Dacula, Ga. / Mill Creek HS) and Cole Phillips (Trion, Ga. / Trion HS) each had two hits for the Highlanders.

Game two provided a better result for GSC as the Highlanders rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the third and fifth innings, which sandwiched around a three-run fourth to complete the 7-2 win.

Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier HS) and Phillips provided the fire power with home runs and three RBI each while Scott and Stanford stayed hot with a pair of hits each.

Derek Wylie led the way for GSC (25-16 overall, 14-8 GCAA) with a 3-for-3 game that included produced a double and an RBI.

Ramsey David (Dacula, Ga. / Buford HS) went six strong innings on the mound to get the win – holding Andrew (28-17-1, 13-9) to two runs on four hits while striking out eight and walking four.
