GSC, East Georgia Split Twin Bill

SWAINSBORO, Ga. – Gordon State and East Georgia State split a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) doubleheader here Friday afternoon as the Highlanders rolled to a 14-1 win in the opener while the Bobcats took a 5-4 nail-biter in the nightcap.

With the split, GSC now sits at 27-18 overall and 16-10 in the GCAA, which is good for second place in the conference, while EGSC is 26-19, 11-13.

Big innings propelled GSC in game one as the Highlanders scored four times in the sixth and ninth to go along with three-run outbursts in the third and eighth frames.

Sam Kuchinski (Powder Springs, Ga. / Harrison HS) led the GSC attack with a 3-for-6 afternoon that included a double, four RBI and a run scored while Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va. / Fauquier HS) went 3-for-5, including a triple, with three runs and an RBI.

Cole Phillips (Trion, Ga. / Trion HS) and Clayton Weaver (Columbus, Ga. / Northside HS) each had two hits while Weaver also walked twice and scored three times.

Four GSC pitchers, led by starter Ramsey David (Dacula, Ga. / Buford HS), allowed just one run on eight hits while striking out eight and walking three.

Despite falling behind 5-2 after three innings, GSC scored twice in the fourth to cut the EGSC advantage to a run.

But neither team could push across another run in the seven-inning nightcap as EGSC held on to gain the split of the doubleheader.

Derrick Wylie (Warner Robins, Ga. / Veterans HS) and Weaver each had two hits. Weaver also scored twice and drove in a run in just his 13th game of the season.

Davis Swenson (Toccoa, Ga. / Stephens Co. HS) pitched well for GSC, allowing just one earned run on three hits while striking out 11 and walking two in six innings of work.
