GSC Drops 10-9 Extra-Inning Heartbreaker In GCAA Second Round

BARNESVILLE, Ga. – No. 2 seed Gordon State battled back from an early 7-1 deficit to eventually force extra innings, but No. 3 seed Andrew College struck for a single run in the 10th inning to pull out a wild 10-9 victory in the second round of the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) postseason conference tournament here Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, Andrew (33-22-1, 16-14 GCAA) moves into the winner's bracket and will host the remaining games after top-seeded Georgia Highlands College lost 14-7 to East Georgia State College Sunday night.

GSC (30-20, 19-11) and GHC will meet on Tuesday, May 11 in an elimination game at 2:30 p.m. in Cuthbert, Ga. With a victory, GSC would play again at 5:30 p.m. to stay alive in the tournament and get into the championship round.

Cole Phillips (Trion, Ga. / Trion HS) led GSC with a 3-for-4 day at the plate that included a homer, double, two RBI, two runs and a walk while Sam Kuchinski (Powder Springs, Ga. / Harrison HS) went 2-for-5 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored.

Derek Wylie (Warner Robins, Ga. / Veterans HS) and Ethan Scott (Augusta, Ga. / Aquinas HS) also homered for the Highlanders.
