GSC Softball Takes Game 2 To Split DH At USC-Salkehatchie

ALLENDALE, S.C. – Gordon State Softball dropped a 6-5 heartbreaker in the opener of its doubleheader with the University of South Carolina-Salkehatchie here Sunday afternoon, but the Highlanders rallied for a solid 6-0 shutout victory in game two.

USC-Salkehatchie opened up a 4-1 in game one before GSC tied at 4-4 in the top of the fifth.

But USC-Salkehatchie regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth with two runs.

GSC pushed across a run in the top of the seventh, but couldn't get the game-tying run in as the Highlanders fell to 4-5 overall.

Catherine Barefield (Cataula, Ga. / Harris Co. HS) went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Makenzie English (Williamson, Ga. / Pike Co. HS) also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Game two was all GSC as the Highlanders (5-5) scored three in the first inning and single runs in the second, sixth and seventh.

Alexys Buffington (Brooks, Ga. / Whitewater HS) went 4-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored while Rebecca Graham (Thomaston, Ga. / Upson-Lee HS) was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Hailey Hooper (Monticello, Ga. / Piedmont Academy) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.

Bailey Odom (Danville, Ga. / Bleckley Co. HS) went the distance in the circle to get the shutout win while allowing five hits, striking out six and allowing a walk.
