BARNESVILLE, Ga. – Gordon State rode the shutout pitching of Faith Hager and Bailey Odom to a pair of 7-0 victories over Georgia Military College in Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) softball action here Thursday.

With the wins, GSC extended its winning streak to 10 games as the Highlanders improved to 17-8 overall and 6-0 in the GCAA, which is good for first place in the conference (East Georgia State is currently at 4-0 in the GCAA).

Three runs each in the first and sixth innings along with a run in the second were more than enough for Hager (Conyers, Ga. / Heritage HS), who held GMC to five hits while striking out nine and walking one.

Chandler Mitchell (Forsyth, Ga. / Locust Grove, Ga.) went 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI and a run scored for GSC while Makenzie English (Williamson, Ga. / Pike Co. HS) went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run.

Game two saw GSC ride the home-run ball as four Highlanders homered, then Odom (Danville, Ga. / Bleckley Co. HS) took it from there with a two-hit shutout that included three strikeouts and three walks.

Catherine Barefield (Cataula, Ga. / Harris Co. HS), Kinsey Jones (Aragon, Ga. / Rockmart HS), Alexys Buffington (Brooks, Ga. / Whitewater HS) and English each homered as the Highlanders scored single runs in the first and second innings to go along with two in the third and three in the fifth.

Jones finished with three RBI while Barefield had two.

Taylor McClendon (McDonough, Ga. / Ola HS) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

GSC is back on the field Tuesday with a trip to Andrew College.
