Highlanders Up Win Streak To 12 With Pair Of Wins At Andrew

CUTHBERT, Ga. – Gordon State Softball continued to ride the arms of a strong pitching staff to grind out a 2-0, 5-2 doubleheader sweep over Andrew College in Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) action here Tuesday afternoon.

Game one saw GSC get single runs in the first and sixth innings while starting pitcher Faith Hager (Conyers, Ga. / Heritage HS) shut down the Andrew bats on three hits while striking out four and walking none.

Hager improved to 10-4 in the circle this season.

Makenzie English (Williamson, Ga. / Pike Co. HS) had a solo homer and Claire Williams (Conyers, Ga. / Heritage HS) drove in Rebecca Graham (Thomaston, Ga. / Upson-Lee HS) with a double for the only other run in the game.

Hailey Hooper (Monticello, Ga. / Piedmont Academy) led GSC with a pair of singles.

The second game featured a comeback by GSC as the Highlanders trailed Andrew 2-0 going into the fifth inning.

But one run in the fifth and two each in the sixth and seventh secured GSC's 12th straight win and improved the Highlanders' overall record to 19-8 and 8-0 in the GCAA.

Kinsey Jones (Aragon, Ga. / Rockmart HS) went 2-for-4, including a double, with an RBI and a run scored while English went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Hooper was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Bailey Odom (Danville, Ga. / Bleckley Co. HS) started and went three innings while allowing two runs on five hits before giving way to Kaylee Phillips (Dalton, Ga. / Ringgold HS) and Hager to finish off the come-from-behind victory over Andrew (8-26, 2-6).

Phillips went two innings and allowed just two hits to get the win (1-1) while Hager recorded her first save of the season with a scoreless seventh inning.

GSC pitching has allowed just 16 runs during the 12-game winning streak, including four shutouts.
