BARNESVILLE, Ga. – After watching its 18-game win streak come to an end in the opening game of the doubleheader with Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Gordon State Softball came back for a convincing 8-0 victory in the second game to gain a split in a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) doubleheader here Saturday afternoon.

ABAC's 8-6 win in game one was highlighted by a five-run fifth inning that included a grand slam by the Fillies to take a 5-2 lead.

ABAC added two runs in the sixth and another run in the seventh to build an 8-2 lead before GSC put together a four-run bottom of the seventh that eventually fell short.

Catherine Barefield (Cataula, Ga. / Harris Co. HS), Breanna Lee (Concord, Ga. / Pike Co. HS) and Claire Williams (Conyers, Ga. / Heritage HS) homered for GSC while Lee also doubled during a 2-for-3 day at the plate that produced three RBI.

Makenzie English (Williamson, Ga. / Pike Co. HS) and Taylor McClendon (McDonough, Ga. / Ola HS) also had a pair of hits each for GSC.

Game two saw GSC rebound from its first loss since with an 8-0 five-inning win.

Barefield homered again for her 13th round-tripper of the season, which ties the Gordon school single-season record.

Kinsey Jones (Aragon, Ga. / Rockmart HS) also connected for a home run as GSC scored three times in the first inning, twice in the second, once in the third and finished the game off with two more in the fifth.

Lee stayed hot at the plate with two more hits and two RBI while Abby Foster (McDonough, Ga. / Ola HS) went 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Highlanders (26-9 overall, 15-1 GCAA).

Bailey Odom (Danville, Ga. / Bleckley Co. HS) improved to 11-0 in the circle with a four-hit shutout of ABAC (8-16, 3-9) that included two strikeouts and a walk.
