Hattermann, Hager Headline GCAA/NJCAA All-Region 17 Honors

BARNESVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) has announced its 2021 Softball All-Region 17 honors and Gordon State College's Faith Hager has earned the GCAA Pitcher-of-the-Year while head coach Ally Hattermann has been named GCAA Coach-of-the-Year.

GSC also had pitcher Bailey Odom, infielder Breanna Lee, outfielders Makenzie English and Camden Steele, and designated player / utility player Catherine Barefield earn All-Region 17 first team honors.

Hager, a nursing major from Conyers, Ga. / Heritage High School, currently has a 17-6 win-loss record with one save, 119 strikeouts with just 22 walks in 119.2 innings pitched, and a commanding 1.40 earned-run average in the circle this season for the Highlanders.

Hager, a freshman right-hander who has been GSC's game one starter this season, has 15 complete games and seven shutouts for the Highlanders.

Odom, a freshman left-hander from Danville, Ga. / Bleckley County High School and a nursing major, has a 14-1 win-loss record with one save, 58 strikeouts in 87.2 innings pitched, and a sparkling 1.52 ERA in the circle this season.

Lee, a sophomore nursing major from Concord, Ga. / Pike County High School, is batting .372 with four home runs, 40 RBI, 26 runs scored and six stolen bases.

English, a radiology nursing major from Williamson, Ga. / Pike County High School, is batting .345 with four home runs, 45 runs scored, 22 stolen bases and 18 RBI.

Steele, a freshman nursing major from Jackson, Ga. / Union Grove High School, is batting .264 with 17 runs scored, 12 RBI, seven stolen bases and a 1.000 fielding percentage on 35 chances this season.

Barefield, a freshman nursing major from Cataula, Ga. / Harris County High School, currently has a batting average of .410, 16 home runs, 48 RBI and 32 runs scored.

Barefield broke the school single-season record of 13 homers when hit No. 14 on April 26.

Hattermann has led GSC to a 32-11 overall record and 21-3 GCAA regular season mark, which propelled the Highlanders to their first GCAA title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming region/conference tournament.

Hattermann is in her 22nd year at Gordon and picked up her 500th career victory back on February 21 at Wesleyan College (Ga.).

GSC also had outfielder Hailey Hooper (Monticello, Ga. / Piedmont Academy) and infielders Taylor McClendon (McDonough, Ga. / Ola High School) and Kinsey Jones (Aragon, Ga. / Rockmart High School) earn their way on to the All-Region 17 second team.
