Munoz Named NJCAA National Pitcher of the Week

CHARLOTTE, NC:  Less than 48 hours after earning GCAA Pitcher of the Week, Gordon State freshman pitcher Katelyn Munoz took things a step further by claiming the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Pitcher of the Week Award.

Munoz led the Highlanders to a 3-1 record last week as they swept a doubleheader against East Georgia State and then split with Georgia Military.   

Munoz started two games in the circle, tossing a four-hit shutout against the Bobcats on Wednesday and another four-hitter against the Bulldogs on Saturday, earning the win in both games. Her other appearance included closing out game two on Wednesday versus East Georgia, throwing 1.1 innings and striking out all 4 batters she faced.   

For the week, Munoz threw 13.1 innings while allowing just one earned run. She scattered 8 hits, walked two, and struck out 21. She improved to 9-7 on the season with one save.  . 

Gordon now sits at 15-16 on the year with an 8-6 record in GCAA play, good for fourth place in the league standings. The Highlanders travel to South Georgia State on Saturday for a 1:00 pm DH.
