GSC Shuts Out GMC to Open Conference Play
Barnesville, GA - Gordon State Soccer opened Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association play Tuesday night with a 2-0 victory over the visiting Georgia Military Bulldogs.

The Highlanders pressed the initiative from the opening whistle, probing for openings to break down GMC. Their persistence was rewarded in the 22nd minute when freshman Kira Goodwin (Middleburg, FL/ Oakleaf HS) slid a ball through the Bulldog's defense that sophomore Gaby Arellano (Miami, FL/ John A. Ferguson HS) ran onto, drove into the box, and found the back of the net.

Just two minutes later the Highlanders doubled their lead when sophomore Aniah Rasool (Ruskin, FL/ LennardHS) placed a ball over the top of the GMC defense into the path of onrushing sophomore Sophia Kotopka (Riverview, FL/ East Bay HS) who dribbled past the goalkeeper and calmly fired a shot into the net.

The Highlanders controlled the flow of the play for the remainder of the first half and took their 2-0 lead to halftime.

The Highlanders have now held their opponents scoreless in three of their four games on the season. The commitment to defense is growing throughout the team as they are beginning to round into form for the season ahead.

With the victory, the Highlanders begin GCAA play with a 1-0 record and an overall record of 3-1. GSC will continue conference play when they return to the field, traveling to Douglas, GA to play South Georgia State at 4:45 Saturday, Sept. 18.
