Barnesville, GA - Gordon State Soccer cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Eagles of Oxford College of Emory University Friday night. Playing their second game in 24 hours the Highlanders blanked their opponents for the fifth time this season.

Gordon State jumped to an early lead when freshman Kira Goodwin (Middleburg, FL/ Oakleaf) pounced on a loose ball and found the back of the Eagle's net just 42 seconds into the match.

The Highlanders doubled their lead in the 15th minute when freshman Haleigh Joslin (Albany, GA/ Deerfield-Windsor) assisted sophomore Madison Schmucker (Cape Coral, FL/ Ida S. Baker) who drove a ball across the goal and into the side netting. GSC maintained control of play for the remainder of the first half, taking a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

The tempo of the game continued in much the same fashion during the second half with the Highlanders dominating play, finishing with 18 shots, 11 on goal. Freshman Ellie Rohrbach (Hahira, GA/ Lowndes) capped off the scoring in the 90th minute after sophomore Sara Schultz (Villa Rica, GA/ Alexander) played her into space behind the Eagles defensive line.

The comprehensive victory elevates the Highlanders season record to 4-1-2. GSC will return to Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association play Tuesday Sept. 28th when they host South Georgia State. The two sides drew 0-0 when they met in Douglas, GA on Sept. 18 and sit atop the conference table as joint leaders.
