Highlanders Fall in Overtime

Highlanders Fall in Overtime
Barnesville, GA-Gordon State Soccer suffered their first Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association loss Tuesday when they fell 1-0 to South Georgia State.

For the second time in ten days, the two sides battled for the ninety minutes of regulation to a scoreless draw. During large stretches of the match, the Highlanders controlled the pace of play and kept the Hawks pinned into their defensive third. These stretches saw the Highlanders play attractive soccer only to be frustrated by their own inability to create decisive goal-scoring opportunities.

Ultimately, the Hawks broke the deadlock in the 13th minute of overtime with a shot from just outside of the penalty area.

With the loss, the Highlanders GCAA record stands at 1-1-1 while they have an overall record of 4-2-2. GSC will hit the road for a pair of non-conference matches at the Rush Invitational at Meridian Community College in Meridian, Mississippi this coming weekend. On Friday, the Highlanders will take on Holmes Community College at 5:00 CDT, and Saturday they will play Itawamba Community College at 2:00 CDT.
