GSC Celebrates Sophomore Night With a Shutout
Barnesville, GA - On a night devoted to honoring the achievements of their thirteen sophomores, Gordon State soccer defeated the Andrew Tigers 5-0.

While the Highlanders set out to acknowledge their sophomores, it was the freshmen who did the majority of the scoring. Gabby Cruzado (Cumming, GA / Forsyth Central HS) got things going in the 18th minute when she collected a ball on the left wing deep in Tiger territory. Her curling shot sailed over the keeper, caromed off of the right-side goalpost and into the net.

Ten minutes later Sara Schultz (Villa Rica, GA / Alexander HS) passed the ball across the Tiger's penalty area into the path of Alana Dove (Winston, GA / Alexander HS) who doubled the Highlander's lead from close range.

The Highlanders dominated possession of the ball and took their 2-0 lead to the halftime break.

The lone sophomore to score on the night came in the 55th minute when Kira Goodwin (Middleburg, FL / Oakleaf HS) dropped a ball to Lourdes Tompkins (Stephens, GA / Oglethorpe County HS) who sent a laser to the opposite side of the goal.

Just two minutes later it was Goodwin's turn to score. Her curling run behind the Tiger's defensive line was met by a precision pass from Schultz and resulted in a clinical finish by Goodwin.

The final goal of the night came in the 87th minute when Kaylah Grammer (Barnesville, GA / Lamar County HS) finished a shot that came via an assist from Livi O'Steen (Meansville,GA / Pike County HS)

The Highlanders collected their 7th shutout of the season on a night in which they did not allow Andrew a shot on goal. The win elevates the GSC's overall record to 6-3-2 with a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association record of 3-1-1. The Highlanders hit the road for the remainder of the regular season beginning Saturday Oct. 16 when they travel to Tifton to play ABAC at 4:00.
