With the home win over GA Military College, the Highlanders are assured to finish top of the GCAA Conference and will host the conference championship on October 25th. Isabelle Vazques's third goal of the season put Gordon State ahead in the 70th minute.
GMC's opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the first 7 minutes of the games. The Bulldogs of GMC would enjoy the better of the chances early but as the half continued, Gordon State played themselves into the game. Finally, the game would turn for the Highlanders and in the 34th minute Skylar Bertram netted on a breakaway, rounding the goalkeeper to tap in a goal off an assist by Ashlynn Wyatt and ending the first half locked at 1-1.
The second half saw both sides create scoring chances but it wasn't until the 70th minute, Isabelle Vazquez scored a stunning game-winning header off a free kick sent in by Sydney Stephens.
The Highlander will play out of state this weekend as they take their game to the road, traveling to Tennessee to play Martin Methodist on Sunday, October 7th and Motlow State Community College on Monday, October 8th.
