Barnesville, GA - Gordon State soccer returned to GCAA Region 17 play Tuesday night at home with a 1-0 victory over the Georgia Military Bulldogs. With the win, the Highlanders clinched the regular season title for the second consecutive year. By winning the regular season region title, GSC has won the right to host the region tournament to be played Tuesday Oct. 29 and Thursday Oct. 31.

Tuesday night the Highlanders absorbed an early burst of pressure from the visiting Bulldogs with steady defensive play before taking control following the first 15 minutes of the match. The game's only goal came in the 18th minute when freshman Ashley Hendrix picked up the ball on the left side of the field and raced past several defenders before beating the goal keeper from an acute angle to the far side of the net.

For the duration of the match the Highlanders played confidently breaking down the Bulldogs while refusing to allow GMC any real legitimate opportunities to score. Tuesday's defeat of GMC took the Highlanders overall record to 12-2-2 on the season with a GCAA Region 17 record of 8-0-2. GSC will look to remain undefeated at home during their final match in Barnesville for the regular season Friday, Oct. 18 at 6:00 PM against ABAC.
