Highlanders Remain Undefeated

While the Gordon State Lady Highlanders continue to put up big numbers on the scoreboard, it's the defensive effort and continued shutouts that have the coaching staff excited about the season. The Highlanders have yet to concede a goal this year and against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) on Wednesday night, didn't allow a shot on goal.

Gordon State started quickly against the Fillies of ABAC registering a shot in the first minute of the game, but it wasn't until the 20th minute that GSC took the lead on a goal from Skylar Bertram, assisted by Kaitlin O'Connor. Less than four minutes later, Bertram scored her second goal, again set up from an assist by O'Connor.

The goals came quickly as the Highlanders built a 5-0 halftime lead off goals from Courtney Hahn, assisted by Beatriz Ramos in the 27th minute, Sydney Stephens, assisted by Michayla Barnes in the 31stminute and finally, Barnes finished out the scoring with less than a minute left on the clock, assisted by Ashlyn Halseth.

It was a quiet start to the second half and wasn't until the 67th minute that Bertram scored her fourth consecutive hat trick assisted by defender Brittany Colangelo. Bertram now has 12 goals on the season which keeps her ranked in the top-five goal scorers in the nation for the NJCAA.

The final goal of the game came in the 74th minute from Demi Kiker who scored within seconds of subbing into the game.

The Highlanders next travel to Milledgeville to take on Georgia Military College Friday, September 14 at 7:00 PM.
