GSC Soccer Opens Conference Play with Road Win

Cuthbert, GA - Jennifer Beharie nets two as the Gordon State College Soccer began their quest to repeat as Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) champions by travelling to Andrew College. The Highlanders opened conference play with a 4 - 0 win over the Tigers.

Gordon State enjoyed a bright start creating several early scoring chances including nine shots which forced five saves from Andrew's All-Region goalkeeper Sophis LaMar. LaMar would be in for a busy day facing a total of 19 shots on goal and making 15 saves.

The opening goal would come in the 33rd minute when Jennifer Beharie found space at the top of the penalty area and played Brittany Colangelo in to goal. Colangelo has now scored in consecutive games, both of which are game-winning goals.

With three minutes left in the first half, Kennedy McNab would score her first of the season. The Coastal Carolina transfer would receive a switched ball from Jasmine O'Hara and power her way down the end line before smashing her shot over LaMar.

Jennifer Beharie would score her first goal as a Highlanders in the 63rd minute as Gaby Arellano's quick feet found Beharie who scored at close range. Three minutes later, Beharie would add her second goal coming from a powerful free-kick which forced a rare error from LaMar.

The Highlanders will travel to Pensacola, FL to take on ASA Miami on Saturday, August 31st at 5:00 (6:00 EST) and Broward College out of Ft. Lauderdale on Monday, September 2nd 12:00 (1:00 EST).
