Douglas, GA - The Gordon State Highlanders battled the South Georgia State Hawks to a draw Saturday evening in their second of three match-ups on the season. In the first game between the two rivals, Gordon State jumped out to a 3-0 lead before allowing two late goals and hanging on to a 3-2 victory at home in Barnesville.

Saturday's meeting involved the Highlanders travelling to Douglas, GA to face the Hawks. In a similar fashion to the first match-up, Gordon State was the aggressor through much of the first half; however, unlike the first game, the Highlanders could not find a path to break through the stubborn South Georgia defense.

The second half proved to as much of a stalemate as the first until South Georgia took the lead in the 75th minute. The Highlanders pressed the initiative and quickly leveled the score just 5 minutes later when freshman Jasmine O'Hara's shot caromed off of the crossbar and sophomore Izzy Vazquez pounced on the rebound to tie the score at 1.

The two sides dueled for an additional 20 minutes of overtime without either finding the winning goal. The tie brings Gordon State's overall record to 7-1-2 with a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association record of 5-0-2. The Highlanders return home for a non-conference match against Spartanburg Methodist College Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6:00 PM.
