Douglas, GA - Gordon State capped off a 3 match series with a 2-0 victory on the road at South Georgia State. In a similar fashion to the previous 2 matches, the two sides found themselves engaged in a closely fought encounter. The first half mirrored the two schools match-up just 6 days earlier as they battled to a 0-0 tie at the half.
The breakthrough came in the 75th minute when quick thinking sophomore Alex Chapman caught the Hawks by surprise with a free kick that she floated over a helpless goal keeper. Chapman's goal was her team leading 8th of the season.
The Highlanders wasted little time in doubling their lead just four minutes later. The goal followed a superb series of passing in which five different Highlanders worked the ball smoothly through the Hawks defense resulting in freshman Gaby Arellano sliding a ball past the defensive line. The timely ball slipped freshman Jersie Stephens into the penalty area where she coolly beat the goal keeper to finish off a solid road win for the Highlanders.
With the win the Highlanders overall record improved to 9-1-2 including a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Region 17 leading record of 6-0-2. The Highlanders will look to remain unbeaten at home and in the region Tuesday October 8th at 6:00 PM when they host ABAC in the second of three matches between the two schools this season.
