Sophomore midfielder Alex Chapman's 2 goals and an assist lift GSC over ABAC

Barnesville, GA - Gordon State soccer closed out an unblemished record at home with a 4-0 victory over Andrew Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) on Friday night. During the 2019 season, the Highlanders won all eight matches that they played at home. Over the course of those eight matches, the Highlanders scored 34 goals while only conceding 6. The Highlanders now remain undefeated at home over the past two seasons posting a 17-0 record over that time.

Gordon State jumped on the visiting Fillies early when sophomore Alex Chapman set up freshman Gaby Arellano for the opening goal just 4 minutes into the match. Chapman doubled the Highlanders lead 12 minutes later when fellow sophomore Brittany Colangelo provided her with an accurate cross to finish. Those two goals gave GSC a 2-0 lead at the break.

The second half play was dominated by the Highlanders just as the first half had been. However, GSC did not find the back of the net until the 82nd minute when Chapman scored her second of the night and team leading 13th of the season. Chapman stole a ball off an ABAC midfielder then glided forward before driving her shot past the goal keeper. The victory was topped off when Colangelo finished off a run in which she dribbled through a broken Fillies defense before firing the ball into the side netting.

GSC will close out their regular season schedule Sunday, Oct. 20 at Andrew College at 2:30. The Highlanders will look to continue their undefeated run in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association which now stands at 9-0-2.

The Highlanders will then have a nine day break during which they will prepare to host the GCAA tournament Oct. 29th. Gordon State will host ABAC on the 29th at 6:00 with a berth in the GCAA Finals on Oct. 31st at stake.
